Legislator of the week – Eileen Cody

Every Friday during session, the Bus gives its Legislator of the Week award. Nominations are culled from our homeskillets in media, politics, and the non-profit worlds.

Hey hey hey

Hey hey hey

Earlier this week, the Bus was down in Olympia testifying on behalf of SB 5629, the Proven Programs sex ed bill. The bill is close to our hearts – and we’ve written about it before – but this was our first time seeing the House take up the bill.

We were especially impressed by Representative Eileen Cody (D-West Seattle), the chair of the Health Care and Wellness Committee. In testimony that navigated between technical details and large structural questions, Rep. Cody kept the committee on track and productive. Not an easy task even with a group in complete agreement, much less one with questions and reservations.

For her excellent leadership on a complex issue that affects so many thousands of young people all across Washington, the Bus is pleased to give Rep. Cody the Legislator of the Week Award!

So crazy how hard it is to pass common sense legislation this session! Uh, it’s obvious that abstinence only education doesn’t work. HELLO!
