One (partial) solution? Governor Gregoire proposes giving four-year Washington State universities the ability to increase college tuition by up to 14 percent this year and next, and up to seven percent increase for Community and Technical colleges.
For in-state UW students, this could mean a tuition increase from $6,802 this year to $7,754 next year, to $8,840 the following year.
Gregoire also proposes lifting the school levy lid. This would allow school districts to collect additional property taxes, which could lead to $68 million in revenue for public schools.
