Peace we out

Peace we out

James (Jim) Vesely, long-time Seattle Times editorial page editor is riding off into the journalistic sunset. Vesely, who many regard as the primary driver behind the Times’ consistently conservative editorial bent, is wrapping up an 18-year career at the Times.

We wish Jim well (naturally), and we’re also very curious to see what the reprecussions of his departure might mean to the local political scene. Newspaper endorsements are not the end-all/be-all of determining elections outcomes, but it’s certainly a big deal. With the P-I losing much of its clout as the editorial board on the left, one could hope that the Times will take up a centrist mantle and be responsive to candidates from both ends of the political spectrum.
