R-71 Update

Referendum 71, a follower of California’s proposition 8 in Washington has gained a heavy amount of support via petition. If you don’t know what R-71 is, here it is in a nutshell: a referendum that asks if the law “homosexual couples should have the same benefits as heterosexual couples” is good or not and if it should be kept or repealed.

Supporters of R-71 sign the petition seek to put the referendum on the ballot so voters can vote on it. As of late, there has been a controversy over whether the names of the people who have signed the petition should be public or not. But in the end, the law rules all; because an attempt to stop a law is public business, the government cannot do anything to prevent the petition info from becoming a public record.

Approximately 138,000 signatures have been recorded and this race is nothing short of a barn-burner. No one can predict the outcome, so time will only tell if there will be enough signatures to put R-71 on the November ballot.

Election officials are rigging the election so this referendum gets on the ballot.

My OWN STATE wants to psychologically-terrorize our families and bring us MORE emotional, physical, mental, and financial suffering by allowing a VOTE on our safety, security, and equal protection through Referendum 71.

When GOVERNMENT fails miserably to protect us AND works overtime nationally (DOMA, DADT) and state-by-state to exclude us and demonize us,

When GOVERNMENT fails miserably to protect us from persecution from religious institutionsā€¦and enables it at the ballot box,

When GOVERNMENT fails miserably to equally-protect our children, spouses, and homes,

When our lives are tantamount to a vote on a 20-cent plastic bag tax or taxes on liquor sales………….

Let’s leave nothing to chance. To preserve the new domestic partnership law, be prepared to vote APPROVED in November. Sign up with Washington Families Standing Together at http://approvereferendum71.org to help get the word out.

Referendum 71 voters will be asked to approve or reject the domestic partnership law.

    REFERENDUM 71 Ballot Title
Statement of Subject: The legislature passed Engrossed Second Substitute Senate Bill 5688 concerning rights and responsibilities of state-registered domestic partners [and voters have filed a sufficient referendum petition on this bill].

Concise Description: This bill would expand the rights, responsibilities, and obligations accorded state-registered same-sex and senior domestic partners to be equivalent to those of married spouses, except that a domestic partnership is not a marriage.

    Should this bill be:

    Approved ___
    Rejected ___
