Issaquah v Italia

Everyone loves Italian hill towns (unless you are a HATER), but there’s much less love in the world for those insta-developments you see gracing slopes in the Cascade foothills. They may seem like two entirely different beasts, but BUILD Blog, the blog of the eponymously-named architecture firm BUILD, saw more than a passing resemblance.

The folks over at BUILD have put together an analysis that is as much about the psychology and perception of civicness and urbanity as it is about physical space and bank loans. It’s an interesting read, especially if you look at it through the lense of what it means to create a space. Take that look, and it peels back some of the assumptions and bravado of the urban/rural divide in Washington.
