Gabe’s Picks – September 21st

Hailing from Central California, Fashawn channels early 90’s stalwarts like De La Soul, Tribe Called Quest and the Pharcyde.  Fashawn’s music contains messages of political unrest, a hunger for knowledge and a self-appreciation that is rarely seen in hip hop today.  Combine that with the 20 year old’s unbridled enthusiasm and pure talent and you have one of hip hop’s most promising stars.  Fashawn will be playing at Nightlight in Bellingham on October 25th.

The Go! Team is a Brighton, England based band who’s music Wikipedia describes a being a ‘mixture of 70’s car chase themes, double dutch chants, old hip hop and loud Sonic Youth style guitars.’  Sounds pretty out there huh? In actuality the group combines live instruments with samples to create pop music that will always put you in a good mood.  Also if you ever get the chance to see The Go! Team live, take it! They have one of the best live shows on the planet.

Röyksopp is an electronic music duo from Tromsø, Norway.  I don’t know much about them, but I do know that the song ‘Happy Up Here’ makes me, what’s the word I’m looking for…..oh yeah happy.
