Students + immigration reform = DREAM Act

This Saturday, there’s a massive rally going down in Seattle. The issue? Comprehensive immigration reform, an umbrella term for a sweeping range of issues, and one that affects millions of young people across the country, and thousands right here in Washington.

And can you guess who really gets caught in the middle? Yup, you called it: young people (you’re a smarty pants, you are). Because of the gaps in our immigration system, and the punitive manner of enforcement, there are thousands of young people who came to the US as babies, children or teenagers, and who are caught in a legal limbo while trying to simply live their lives.

One component of immigration reform would be the DREAM Act, a piece of legislation geared at giving these exact young people a path to citizenship as they complete higher education and become the productive, intelligent and effective graduates that our country needs to do it’s dang thing.

Long story short, you should come to the rally. It’s g0ing down this Saturday, April 10th, at Occidental Park in Pioneer Square. Doors open at noon, but you should get there earlier – thousands are predicted!
