The Bus is supporting Initiative 1098. You should too.

Hey! Hey you! You with the teeth! That’s right, we’re talking to you.

We want to make something really, really, REALLY clear: the Bus is fully, excitedly and fist-pumpingly supporting Initiative 1098.

We’re supporting it because it’s the biggest step yet in the looooong and ongoing process to make Washington a more equitable state, and to ensure that little things like education and health care actually have the funding they need. Not too shabby, right?

So what would 1098 do? It’s simple: it supports small independent businesses by lowering operations taxes, cuts the property tax for homeowners by 20%, and ask some of the folks in the top 3% of moneymakers to kick in a small percentage. The result? Over a billion dollars of funding that would flow directly into making sure our education system is funded (yay) and that our health care structure can actually keep us healthy (it’s the little things).

Bottom line: we’re psyched. But that’s not enough! You should ALSO be totally psyched. Initiative 1098, when it passes in November, will make your life BETTER. Yes, you personally will have a better life, and we don’t say that lightly.

So here’s the thing: the most important thing you can do right now is to help gather signatures for Initiative 1098 and make sure it gets on that November ballot in the first place. The campaign needs lots of signatures, and the best person to help get them is you! What do you have to do? Show up at one of the many many many events where signature gathering is going down, and be a part of the movement.

Some of the throwdowns that we’re especially excited about:

  • The Fremont Solstice Parade. Saturday, June 12th. Meet at 10am at 1914 34th Street, in Fremont. Your chance to answer that time-honored question: where do naked bikers keep their petition-signing pens?
  • The Spokane Pride Parade. Saturday June 12th. Meet at 11am on Wall Street, between Spokane Falls Blvd and Main Street, in Spokane. We know Dempsey’s is a good time, so Spokane Pride is guaranteed to be awesome!
  • Bellevue College graduation. Friday, June 18th. Meet at 5pm at 3000 Landerholm Circle, in Bellevue. The Eastside’s premier institution of higher learning needs you to make the day complete!

We’ll see you there! Go 1098!

registration by the secretary of state pursuant to RCW 29A.
08.107 (review by secretary of state). Only after the
verification of the new registration has been completed shall

    Rock on Bus!

This initiative will directly benefit young people and be our first chance in a while to do something aggressive to help fix out state’s budget problems!
