Frustration in New York

This is too bad. Over in the East, the New York State Senate voted down a marriage equality bill by a vote of 38-24. That’s no good. And what’s even more frustrating is that many Senators who had previously stated their support for the bill ended up voting against it. Remember: bills rarely make it to a floor vote if the votes aren’t fairly certain – this was a shocker.

One of the Bus’s friends in Albany sent this video our way, it’s State Senator Jim Alesi, who had previously committed to supporting the marriage equality bill, agonizing over his final “no” vote. According to our Albany connects, it was the votes of people EXACTLY like Senator Alesi that were being counted on to advance equality. This was the first indication he was not going to support marriage.

And this, in a nutshell, is exactly why you as a Washingtonian should care about what goes on in Olympia. We always need to keepa watchful eye, and ensure that intentions are followed with action, and promises are kept. Keep your ears to the ground, you’re going to be hearing a lot more about what you can do in Oly with the Bus very shortly.
