Healthcare – just doing it

September3HealthCareRally

Put your feet where your mouth is (to combine two exhortationally-oriented aphorisms). This Thursday, some of the region’s leading health care groups are giving health care reform one last loving send-off before Congress gets back to work in the other Washington.

Come on down to Westlake Park (4th and Pine in downtown Seattle) for some postive rah-rah to show our elected officials that you support health care reform. It’s that easy. Boo ya.

Ohmega + Newman

Two of the NW’s finest (even if one lives in LA, big woop) get together on this newish collaboration. Ohmega Watts is one of Seattle’s finest beatcrafters, and is a welcome addition after migrating northbound up I-5 from Portland a year or so ago. Newman, a proud Garfield High School alum, helms much of the production for Lost Angeles  indie hop stalwarts Giant Panda (though they would probably hate that label). Enjoy!

How do you ride the Bus?

Just in case you didn’t know. Check the Bus office’s cameo in the background of the final shot. Tis good.

Walla Walla, PowerCorps, and health care

PowerCorps is the gift that keeps on kicking ass. PowerCorps graduate Will Canine is back on his beat in Eastern Washington, and just yesterday helped organize a crew of young activists to head out to a local town hall on health care. Yes, it’s the same format that often sees every community’s favorite nutjobs busting up the event – but this time Representative Cathy McMorris Rodgers got an eyeful of energized young folks in favor of health care reform. And get this: they didn’t even disrupt proceedings. Magic. Check out the pics below!

Get your health care on.

Say that then.

Buzz it up

Tonight at Moe Bar, it’s everybody’s favorite happy hour (up to and including your mom – we called and checked, she loves it), the Washington Buzz.

As we like to do, we’ll be rolling from 6-8 pm, and it’s sure to be an interesting convo. Which candidates will show up? What post-primary gossip will emerge? Will the rumors be scurrilous? Will the scandal be random? Only one way to find out.

Oh yeah, and monthly members? First drink is on us. Boo ya.

Hella Bus x Bald Man Round 2!

More hella bus street art from around Seattle.  First installment is by artist No Touching Ground.  You can see more of his work here.  This specific one was found in a parking lot at 1st and Battery in Belltown.  You can see more pictures of the lot here.  Not sure who does the 2nd or 3rd stickers, but they are very, very fresh.

bertha knight landes

Away back in 1926, Seattle became the first major US City to elect a woman mayor: Bertha Knight Landes.

Yep. 1926.

83 years later, of the 30 candidates who ran for Seattle Mayor, King County Executive, and Seattle City Council in the August 18th primary, only five of them were women.

where dinosaurs roam

Washington state is on the forefront of many a…front. Software, aerospace, music.

Today, however, we’d like to take a little time to appreciate our historic, nay, prehistoric roots over in Granger, Washington.

Take That Newton!

Jeff Davis and Al Eufrasio, Authors of the classic guide to experiencing the quirks of our great state: “Weird Washington”, have recently exposed some top secret information on paranormal activity in the state. If you travel to Prosser, Washington (between Yakima and Walla Walla), you can experience the site known only as Gravity Hill. The exact location is undisclosed,  but is marked with a hand-spray painted starting line. Legend has it that from this point, should you put your car into neutral, supernatural forces will push your car… UP HILL. The authors have included a first hand account of the event on their website:
