Hail to the bus driver!

Classy, eh?

How is this week different from any other week? Well, for one, it’s been officially decreed Bus Driver Appreciation Week by the King County Council. Which means we, being the Bus, want to give a special shout out to our favorite Bus driver in the whole wide world: TJ.

TJ is a gem of a guy, a steady hand on the wheel, and a constant source of good cheer, good jokes, and tips on where to get the best smoked meats. We kid you not. So thank you TJ, you rule. Please enjoy this song in your honor.

The 2010 Oly in a Can Awards – la bonne affaire

Last night was AWESOME. We couldn’t think of a better way to wrap up our Oly in a Can series than last night’s soiree. As always, Grey was full of good people, smart politics, and great energy. You all rocked the Facebook (that’s a lot of messages for legislators to wake up to…), and our 2010 awardees made the stage stairs shine with awesome. They then attempted to eat their trophies (don’t believe? Just look below…).

Again, thanks to everyone who came out last night, especially to the members of our awesome board of directors! Big shouts to Eric, Matt, Tara, and the other awesome people of Grey, and to Selector Tang for holding down the musics so nice.

Check the pictures, and thanks for coming through!

Lobbying 2.0

Looking up those legislative districts.

Alternate text: Buck a shot for your state.

Obey the bears.

The crowds gather.

Like father, like daughter.

The 2010 Oly in a Can Awardees!

We sort of thought the trophies would be bigger...

...but we're still psyched!!!

No, noooo, DON'T eat the trophy. Liz? LIZ? DO NOT eat the trophy! Are you even listening?

Gabe’s Picks – February 24th

+

Here at the bus we like to pride ourselves as matchmakers between the worlds of politics and popular culture.  This weeks “Gabe’s Picks” highlights two Parliament: Green Edition performers who have collaborated on a new song.  We’re not saying that this song came into being because of us, but it most definitely did.  Kung Foo Grip and Brothers From Another have collaborated on “Kids In The Mall,” and I’m proud to say that the song bumps. The beats got a mid-90’s West Coast feel and Fish, Greg Cypher, Goonstar and Breez all kill the track.  Download “Kids In The Mall”.

Check how UW do

If there’s one thing the Bus likes, it’s people who manage to bring humor and smarts under one roof. To that end, check out the video done by a crew of students from the UW’s Masters in Social Work Program. Good music? Check. Funny concept? Check. Good action at the end? Check again.

Watch it and enjoy. And can’t somebody get that first dude to cut his hair already? Dang.

Sonny should be able to pay for college

And he was able to, thanks to a WAVE Scholarship from the State. Unfortunately, the WAVE Scholarship is a victim of the ongoing budget cuts, and Sonny’s scholarship has been suspended. Crappy? Yes. Listen to the man.

Spread the word!

Oly in a Can – bootleg poster!

Bootleg! Accept no imitations!

What do you know about that? Oly in a Can Episode 3 is coming up on Wednesday, and ALREADY we’re seeing knock-offs and bootlegs. Take for instance the poster above. Just look at it. Observe the shoddy reproduction of the date (Wednesday, Feb 24th), the time (6 to 8 pm), and the location (Grey Gallery – 1512 11th Ave).

Now, the Bus would never stoop so low as to create such a low-budget poster. Never. Not in a million years. Even if we know that changing the color of a poster dramatically means more people look at it. Uh uh. I mean, there’s no chance the Bus would ever use, say, Powerpoint, to do our graphics? Nope. No, not us. We certainly wouldn’t ever in a million years be that low budget.

Must be somebody ripping us off. Yup, sure, that’s the only option…
