Bean One + Game Soulo = DOPKWE

DOPKWE

Just what is DOPKWE? Well, we’re not entirely sure either, but we know it involves Seattle stalwart G Soulo and Super Producer/Dyme Def co-conspirator Bean One. And that means you have one of the coldest emcees in town on tracks by one of the coldest producers in the Northwest.

They have a 10-track EP for you to download, because here in the future, that’s how we get our music (apparently). It is, without a doubt, ice cold, and highly recommended. Download it, and play it with your windows down.

What a weekend!

Ladies and gentlemen, it is on beyond on. Last weekend was one of the best ever in the history of the Bus. Not only did it see the first Bus trip of the year in support of Marilyn Strickland, and not only did the VoteBot Army kick off its unstoppable march to power, but it was the first weekend that PowerCorps flexed its field-organizing power.

The results? One of the best Bus trips ever, thousands of voter contacts over the weekend, and an auspicious beginning to a key election season. Enough with the talking: pictures are worth a thousand words, and we’ve got a LOT of pictures. Get ’em!

Fired up!

FiredUpTomorrow is the first day of the rest of your political life! The Bus is suiting up in its finest duds and heading to Tacoma to support Marilyn Strickland’s run for Mayor! It’s the first Bus trip of the year, and it’s looking to be a great day.

The sun’s shining, and Marilyn’s got a ton of volunteers coming – we’re super excited to bolster their numbers and support a great progressive candidate!

Want to hop on the Bus? We can find a way (because we have the will), drop us a line and let us know – info(at)washingtonbus(dot)org.

Major Lazer vs Major Blazer

Last night at Neumo’s saw not only the June installment of the Washington Buzz, but also a sonic tour-de-force by blogosphere sensation Major Lazer, a collabo between UK super-producer Switch and the tastemaker’s tastemaker Diplo. By all reports the show was fantastic, but the Bus has a question: Major Lazer? Or Major Blazer?

Or:

Major Blazer

And yes, we CAN settle this debate.

Khingz seeks queen

Photo by Canh Solo... appropriately enough.

This here is one of the Bus’s favorite rappers, period. Local? Yes. National? Yep. We like Khingz. He sings the rap songs very well.

You may have seen his name around recently, and for good reason: he just released his latest album, From Slaveships to Spaceships. It’s a powerful album, both musically and emotionally – not many rappers or poets encompass and embrace their histories as fully as Khingz does here.

And there’s some sexy-time (what album would be complete without it?). Check out the officially leaked and officially awesome Blaq Han Solo, one of the standout tracks on a standout album.

Support local music! Pick up From Slaveships to Spaceships at Easy Street Records, Cellophane Square and CDbaby.com.

And thanks to the Hipster Holy Grail for the link.

WA Buzz: Better than a smoke-filled room.

WA Buzz: Better than a smoke-filled room.

Oh yeah, and don’t forget: tonight’s the night for the June installment of the Washington Buzz – the Bus’s monthly happy hour/political meet-up. As always, it’s going down at the wonderful Moe Bar (1410 10th Ave) from 6-8 pm.

Good people, good politics, and drink specials. See you there!

If you like the environment…

Your choice. Just use it. Photo by DJWudi via flickr.

Your choice. Just use it. Photo by DJWudi via flickr.

And we hope you do, this is your big chance! Over in the other Washington, the House is voting on one of the biggest, most sweepingest environmental bills in, uh, ever.

It’s got a bravado-ish title: the American Clean Energy and Security Act, and unlike many bills, the content lives up to the title. In essence, this legislation would cap global warming pollution and establish the framework for a clean energy economy. No small thing, and a dramatic step forward in developing a clean and sustainable future.

So what can you do? Easy breezy: call your Representative and tell him/her that you support the American Clean Energy and Security Act, aka HR 2454, and you want them to do the same. It’s key, because there are some folks on the fence, and your call puts them over the top.

The number: (202) 224-3121. Call it. Do it big. Get isht done.
